OpenType Information

The OpenType font format was created by combining the two most popular font formats, TrueType and PostScript, opening up many new typographic possibilities. The core benefits of the format are that it is platform-independent, supports international character sets, and includes numerous new typographic options.
Each individual OpenType font contains all the relevant data. The outlines, measurements, and bitmap data are now contained in a single file, which can be installed on both Apple Macintosh and Windows PC platforms. This guarantees that documents created in an application can be transferred across platforms without problems.
Thanks to Unicode indexing, multi-language texts are much easier to handle, as each accented or special character has its own dedicated location. It is no longer necessary to install different language versions of a specified font to view and edit multi-language files correctly. The 65 000 available glyph locations in a single font provide not only for all the languages in the world, but also for professional typographic features like small caps, old style numerals, multiple sets of numerals, fractions, ligatures and alternative glyphs.
All Suitcase Type Foundry fonts conform to the most demanding criteria. OpenType Std fonts are our standard. Our Latin fonts contain all the glyphs necessary for setting over forty languages; all caps and true small caps; lining and old style, proportional and tabular, fraction and superscript numerals; various ligatures; and alternative and expert characters. This yields a total of over 800 glyphs per single font.
